Requirements
Takehouse makes music with AI models that run on your own graphics card, so the card matters most. Takehouse checks your PC the first time it starts and tells you plainly if something is missing.
Windows
- Windows 10, version 22H2 or later, or Windows 11.
- A 64-bit PC with an Intel or AMD processor (x64).
Memory
- 16 GB of RAM recommended. Takehouse itself uses about 4 GB at its peak while it plans and renders a song, and about 5 GB while a local lyrics model writes or tidies lyrics; the rest is room for Windows and the other programs you have open.
Graphics card
- An NVIDIA graphics card from the GeForce RTX 20 series or newer (RTX 20, 30, 40 or 50 series).
- Video memory: 8 GB minimum, 12 GB recommended. A render needs about 8 GB of video memory at its peak, so 8 GB cards are tight: close games and other programs that use the graphics card while you make songs.
- NVIDIA driver 525 or newer. If yours is older, Takehouse says so and points you to nvidia.com or the NVIDIA app to update it.
Without an NVIDIA graphics card
Takehouse can't make songs without a supported NVIDIA card. It still opens, and its first-run check explains what's missing in one sentence, for example: Takehouse makes songs on an NVIDIA graphics card (RTX 20 series or newer). None was found on this PC.
Older cards get a sentence of their own: Your GeForce GTX 1080 is older than Takehouse supports (RTX 20 series or newer).
Disk space
| Edition | Space for the app and its models |
|---|---|
| Takehouse | About 12.2 GB |
| Takehouse Light | About 10.4 GB |
Plus room for your songs. Takehouse keeps every take at full quality (32-bit float, 48 kHz stereo), about 23 MB for each minute of a take, so a three-minute take uses about 70 MB. A redo version stores only the part it changed.
Internet
Making songs doesn't need the internet: the music is made on your PC. The internet is used for:
- installing and updating Takehouse from the Microsoft Store;
- writing or tidying lyrics with an online AI service, if you choose one (with your own key);
- downloading an optional local lyrics model, if you ask for one;
- reading the current list of downloadable models, when you open a screen that downloads something or press Check for updates (never when Takehouse starts).
The privacy policy says exactly what each of these sends.
Optional: writing lyrics on your own PC
Instead of an online service, Takehouse can write lyrics with a model that runs on your graphics card. These are optional downloads, offered in Settings › AI services & keys:
- Phi-4 (Microsoft), for cards with 12 GB of video memory or more: a download of about 8.4 GB.
- Phi-4-mini (Microsoft), for smaller cards: about 2.5 GB, plus a 46 MB add-on that lets it tidy pasted lyric sheets.
Takehouse checks the card's free memory before each use and says so if a model won't fit. You can also choose any chat model of your own in GGUF format.
